Last Week

So, I've posted before that my sister's staying with us for awhile. Let me just say that I never realized how fast this time would fly by. She's already been here for over TWO weeks! We're really enjoying having her here and I think she's having a great time as well! She is learning to rollerblade and is actually quite good. After the kids go to bed at 7 we usually head outside for a couple hours until the moquitoes become unbearable. During that time we all take turns on our one pair of rollerblades while the other two play tennis or bike back and forth down our little dead end road. It might not sound that exciting but, it is a great time. We all get a good laugh when Joel squeezes his men's size 11 feet into my women's size 8 rollerblades..... ouch! Once we're done acting like children we make popcorn, play UNO, read a chapter from John and go to bed. I love this simple life!
Norah's getting really good with sidewalk chalk! Joel was blown away when he saw this sign the kids made!

There's no way we can possibly thank Joel enough for what he does for our family but.... a Dairy Queen cake is a great place to start.:)
We love you SO much Joel!
Snuggle time with Ali.
Tuesdays are very exciting days for window watchers..... garbage day.

Also, Norah started climbing out of her crib last week. I was hyperventilating into a paper bag as I typed that.. So, we're deciding what's next. She usually responds when I tell her that, Mommy will come get her when it's time to wake up and don't try to escape crawl out of bed..... I don't think that's going to work much longer though. What we don't want is her crawling into Henry's crib and pestering him while he's trying to sleep. I guess I crawled out of my bed quite a bit when I was a baby, so I deserve this!:)

Pool Fun

The abundance of pictures you're about to see, does not do justice to how much fun we have in our little pool. Thirteen dollars well-spent.

8 Months

Yes.... it's true.... Henry is now an eight month old. This past month has been lots of fun with the beautiful summertime weather, allowing us to spend most of our time outdoors. I would have to say it's been Henry's most exciting month as well.
This month Henry....
Swam in the pool several times... he absolutely LOVES splashing!
Started eating cheerios, now he's a pro!
Moved into Norah's room, which everyone's pretty happy about... well, not so sure about Norah!
Started CRAWLING! Whoa HELLO- I would not have predicted that!
Had his first stay in a hotel in Rochester, MN
Took his first roadtrip to Tennessee
Favorite thing to say is "Dadadadadada"
Prefers his mama! Woooohhoooo
He loves giving sloppy kisses and big hugs!! In this pic, he's going in for a big smooch.

He's on the move!

This past Saturday, Henry decided to impress his parents, grandparents, aunt and sister with his mad crawling skills. I can't believe how much this little ham loves the spotlight! He crawls to a coveted toy and proudly smiles while we applaud his accomplishment. Just one week shy of his 8 month birthday, he's one the move!
GO HENRY GO!!!
Also, Henry has mastered the art of eating cheerios and has finally moved out of our room. He and Norah are doing great sharing and we're all getting good sleep!

Weekend Scene

There's something so special about the way grandparents love their grandbabies and this weekend, we all soaked in that great love. We left Friday for Rochester for a quick visit with my parents and returned home Sunday with my little sister in tow. She'll be staying with us for a little while and we are LOVING having her here. More on that later.
These are two of my favorites from this weekend:

We hope you had a great weekend!

Bad Start

Before 9am, sweet Norah, who had been awake less than 30 minutes began eating one of her board books. Yes, I had fed her breakfast but, this type behavior we usually see when she's over-tired. I warned her that I would take it away if she didn't stop chewing on it..... also, explained to her that we need to take good care of the stuff we've been blessed with. After she continued chewing on the book I took it away from her and, she did what she does when she really wants to get a rise out of her mama.... she ran over and hit Henry. Even worse, she grabbd a remote off the couch and hit him in the back of the head with it. cue screaming, crying, screaming, crying. It's hard to soothe a baby when you know Norah needs to be disciplined in that immediate moment. I guess this is why when people hear our kids' ages they autimatically respond with "you've got your hands full" or "you're a busy mama."

The rest of the morning followed suit with bad behavior and timeouts for Norah. We even called Joel to have him give Norah a "little pep talk" about good behavior. That didn't work. Note: motivational speaking is not in Joel's future.

When I carried Norah to her highchair for lunch she gave me a big hug and rested her head on my shoulder. She needed extra cuddle time today which I wasn't giving her. I set her in her chair and she immediately folded her hands to pray and bowed her head. I realized that Norah IS learning and she was just simply having a bad day. After lunch when Henry needed to be fed, instead of waking him, I let him sleep even though we tend to be schedule sticklers..... my oldest needed some cuddle time.
And that's exactly what we did.

I love that when my babies need me, I can be there for them. To God be the glory for making it possible for me to be a stay-at-home mom. I just always need to remember to take good care of what I have been blessed with.

Morning Scenes

Welcome to our kitchen on Saturday and Sunday mornings! Actually, every morning but, Saturdays and Sundays are best because Joel's home. This past week Norah took a big girl stance and bid farewell to her highchair so, little brother could use it for awhile. Not before enjoying one last waffle in it though!
Henry was MORE than happy to be upgraded from bumbo seat to highchair.
Our sweet Norah turns 2 next month! Can
I just hit the pause button for a moment...
or a year?!?

We hope you had a really great weekend!

Tennessee

We were able to drive down to Tennesse for Memorial Day Weekend and, WOW, what a great time filled with love and family.  We did so much stuff in just 2 1/2 short days... this call for a bulleted list!

We:
  • drank delicious coffee
  • had fulfilling adult conversation
  • watched our kids interact
  • had birthday cake for my 26th birthday
  • heard about Gail's recent trip to Turkey
  • celebrated Keith and Brenda's 40th wedding anniversary
  • aunt Joy and Brenda did Bible studies with the kids
  • watched Grady(8) and Gavin(7) shoot Joy's bow
  • interviewed and recorded Keith and Brenda talking about marriage
  • the cousins jumped on the trampoline, played catch, played in the sand box, rode bike, played on the swingset, and enjoyed the Tennessee heat.
  • went to church
  • had a Memorial Day Parade down the driveway
  • the guys played football... no injuries, thankfully
  • ate the best food.... let me just say 3 things: ribs, corn-on-the-cob, grape salad. YUMM-O! Every meal was sooo good.
  • laughed. oh boy, did we ever laugh.
  • talked about our vacation for next month

40 years of marriage celebrated with a Dairy Queen cake!

After we interviewed and recorded Keith and Brenda about marriage, Keith asked, "Is the interrogation over??" haha
Keith and Brenda with the grandkids, minus Gage and Henry.
